Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to work within the Macmillan Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and Hepatobiliary (HPB) specialist team based within HGS.
You would join this well-established and highly regarded UGI/HPB cancer specialist nursing service. We are looking for an experienced, innovative, motivated, hardworking and enthusiastic registered nurse with excellent communication skills who has a passion and drive for delivering patient centred care and services.
The post holder will manage a caseload of patients and be an expert resource to UGI/HPB cancer patients and their carers. Acting as a key worker you will use and apply expert knowledge of cancer treatment to oversee and co-ordinate services and personalize the pathway of care for individual patients. This includes ensuring the complex information and support needs of patients and families are addressed. You will possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to work both independently and as a member of the specialist UGI/HPB cancer multidisciplinary team. You should have demonstrable experience of working with people affected by UGI/HPB cancers and a good understanding of both local and national cancer guidelines and pathways.
Main duties of the job
To apply for this post, you will need :
3 years post registration (2 years' experience in cancer care, palliative care or upper GI/Gastroenterology)
Knowledge of upper GI and HPB cancer diagnosis and management
Knowledge and understanding of the Cancer CNS role and its purpose
Advanced communication skills to speak with patients, relatives and liaison with multidisciplinary team including a variety of support network
Basic Computer knowledge
