Job summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Hand Surgery posts with a specialist interest in wrist surgery at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust (UHB).
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the provision of emergency hand surgery and elective surgery at UHB.
The post holder will work as one of a team of 15 Consultant Hand Surgeons. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), which is the base site for the Hand department in UHB, takes all emergency and urgent hand patients from the West Midlands who require surgical intervention and shares the provision of elective surgery with the ROH. Elective work will be tailored to the experience of the individual but there is the opportunity to develop experience within the field of complex wrist surgery.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will participate fully in the hand surgical on-call rota and will support all aspects of the hand trauma service including revascularisation and replantation. The Centre for Defence Medicine is based in the hospital and is the main receiving site for the British military casualties from conflict areas around the world. QEHB is a Level 1 Trauma Centre receiving major civilian trauma from the West Midlands and neighbouring counties. Experience of managing wrist injuries is essential. The unit has a flourishing audit and research department and a successful hand fellowship programme.
Candidates must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their CCT or have equivalent level of experience & qualification.
