Job summary

The post holder is required to assess own workload and capability of patients to co-operate for radiographic examination. To undertake radiographic examinations within the Directorate of Radiology on all sites and maintain accurate records. The role is physically demanding, and post holders may occasionally be subject to verbal abuse, mainly out-of-hours and often be exposed to body fluids and severely traumatised patients.

Main duties of the job

*To perform x-ray procedures in line with agreed competence.

*Ensure that during the course of work, adequate radiation protection is given to self, patients and other members of staff in line with recommendations laid down in the local rules in line with Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR 2017) and Ionising Radiation Medical Exposure Regulations 2017 (IRMER).

*To ensure that appropriate standards of cleanliness of the environment and equipment are maintained in line with departmental policies.

*To assess clinical information provided on Radiology request forms against Radiographic Authorisation and Justification Protocols in line with their role as Operator under the IRMER and take appropriate action as required.

*To act in accordance with the Radiographer's Code of Professional Conduct at all times.

*To maintain accurate records on the Radiology computer system relating to radiographic examinations, including radiation dose in line with Departmental procedures.

*To report health and safety issues to a senior member of staff/Health & Safety Representative in line with Departmental policies.

*To take part in Service Improvement initiatives in order that the Directorate's quality targets are attained.

*To maintain accurate computer records relating to Radiology examinations completed by self in order that the Directorate provides accurate statistical and financial data.
