Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join the screening team as an Antenatal and Newborn Screening Co-ordinator.
The post holder will share responsibility with the existing coordinator for the coordination of all NHSE antenatal and newborn screening programmes in the Trust:
Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia
Foetal Anomaly
Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy with the addition of HCV testing (Hepatitis C)
Newborn Bloodspot
Newborn and Infant Physical Examination
The post holder will also manage the implementation of HCV testing, including counselling women with a positive result, education of staff involved in testing, supervision of the referral process and audit.
Main duties of the job
*To demonstrate excellent communication skills, which facilitate working in partnership with the wider Trust multidisciplinary team and specialist services.
*Display good presentation skills.
*Advise and provide clinical support for midwives regarding the NHSE screening programmes.
*Prepare and participate in the Trust antenatal and newborn screening steering group and NHSE programme board.
*Communicate to line manager in challenging situations.
*Co-ordinating and facilitating the antenatal and newborn screening services within the Trust.
*Influencing skills across professional boundaries.
*Inform and counsel women with positive results and facilitate diagnostic testing and support decision making around continuation or termination of pregnancy.
*The post holder will deliver results sensitively and empathically.
*The post holder will be competent in discussing positive screening results and having difficult conversations which may include termination of pregnancy.
*The post holder will use their counselling skills in ensuring that information is delivered sensitively, has been understood and all options available explained.
