University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

Locally Employed Doctor - Major Trauma Service

The closing date is 03 July 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity exists for clinicians to work within the Major Trauma Service at QEHB. This job would be very suitable for someone planning to apply for a national training number or is seeking a holding job pending an application. The post commences on 6th August 2025 on a fixed term basis until 4th August 2026.

Main duties of the job

QEHB has been a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) since 2012, serving patients in the West Midlands region as a hub within the West Midlands Major Trauma Network and is supported by the Trauma Units (TUs) and Local Emergency Hospitals (LEH) within the region. Patients may self present, may arrive either by ambulance or helicopter. A small number may be a hyperacute transfer from a regional TU. Additionally, inter-hospital transfers following referral from trauma units or centres. At QEHB, the Major Trauma Service (MTS) is not a bed holding specialty, but co-ordinates care for poly-trauma patients integrating their multi-specialty input. These patients typically have an Injury Severity Score (ISS) of greater than 9. In addition, QEHB is the UK receiving centre for soldiers injured abroad and the MTS provides support for the care of these patients.
