Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Midwifery Matron for Bereavement to lead our Bereavement and Rainbow Services at University Hospital Birmingham. We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic, experienced midwife who will be committed to ensuring high quality, safe physical and emotional care for families through pregnancy and baby loss.

We are proud of our bereavement services and have been recognised nationally and locally for the service we provide. We are looking for a midwife with exceptional communication skills, empathy and emotional intelligence with the ability to work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and service users to create an environment of continuous learning and quality improvement.

The Matron for Bereavement will be an integral member of the senior leadership team and will be responsible for the provision of high-quality care and the day-to-day operational management of the service, implementing the Trusts strategy alongside national, regional and local drivers for improvement.

With transformational leadership skills and extensive midwifery experience the matron will provide professional, clinical and managerial leadership across bereavement services and work in collaboration with the MDT and wider matron team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Bereavement Suite, Bereavement Care provision and Rainbow services.

Ensure evidence-based practice and continuing professional development of staff.

The post holder will provide a visible and clinical presence within the clinical areas and be responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality care, ensuring that the needs of women and their families are placed at the centre of care.

Lead on gathering feedback from families, be responsive to them and ensure continuous quality improvement to maintain high quality, individualised and culturally sensitive care.

Provide assurance of legal and statutory compliance related to bereavement care.

Working with the Lead Midwife for Quality Governance, Head of Midwifery and other Matrons the post holder will provide strategic, clinical and managerial leadership, which reflects and supports current and future needs of the maternity services and the Clinical Governance Agenda.

The post holder will be involved in developing and maintaining collaborative working and good communication within the Speciality/ CDG, to provide evidence based positive patient experience.
