Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to lead the nutrition nurse team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. Although, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, the lead nurse will be responsible for the specialist nutrition nurse service across four acute hospital sites, Solihull Community and the Severe Intestinal Failure service based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The post holder will be a nutrition nurse specialist with extensive experience in managing complex patients who require nutritional support of all forms including enteral, parenteral and home parenteral nutrition. The postholder will be leading a team of skilled and dynamic nurses and will be supervising a team of independent non-medical prescribers, whilst being a positive and influential leader in the provision of high quality and safe care. As such the post holder must be an independent non-medical prescriber with experience of managing parenteral nutrition regimens. Providing strong clinical leadership, the post holder will be professionally accountable for standards and will work closely with the Consultant Nurse for Nutrition and Intestinal Failure to promote excellence in practice.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will be an autonomous leader with proven multi-disciplinary team collaboration skills, liaising with multi-disciplinary teams across hospital and community settings. They will:

Provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care supporting the development of staff caring for patients through support formal education and training, practice development and role modelling.

*Be accountable for co-ordinating aspects of patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff within a defined service or defined group of staff.

*Use a range of techniques to ensure set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to set monitor and continually improve standards of care and patient experience.

*Lead on nursing practice development including the development, and or updating of clinical guidelines, policy and procedure that relates to the practice setting.

*Lead on service development and contribute to strategic planning

*lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.

*Ensure effective delivery of organisational objectives.

*Where required lead or assist in research projects as required, disseminating and ensuring utilisation of research results to change practice.

*Utilise research findings in the delivery of specialist patient care, developing new ways of working.
