Band 6 Cancer Research Nurse - MIDRU

Job summary

The post holder will deliver high quality care for haematology and oncology patients through clinical research. The post will be based in the MIDRU Building at Heartlands Hospital but also be required to work across Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals. The post holder will work as part of the friendly and professional cancer research team to manage both academic and commercial trials, organising a caseload of patients across a portfolio of studies. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of organisation and communication skills to ensure that care is provided in line with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP), meeting the needs of the patient and the study.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for adhering to study protocols by delivering the daily requirements of a range of clinical trials. This includes practical skills such as Vital signs, ECG's, phlebotomy and high-quality documentation skills, ensuring the rights, safety and wellbeing of their patients. They will be required to liaise with support service departments such as pharmacy, labs and imaging and work alongside the haematology/oncology day units and principal investigators. The post holder will work closely with senior research nurses regarding the allocation of workload and progress of trials, including regulatory approvals. They will also be a role model for junior team members, supervising data management. The post holder will demonstrate a passion for research and compassion for patients and colleagues that are essential qualities for an excellent research nurse.
