Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietetic assistant to join our general medicine dietetic team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham covering a range of acute wards including respiratory, acute medicine and healthcare of older people. These acute wards are managed by a strong multidisciplinary team including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, specialist nurses, palliative care services and liaison psychiatry.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic dietetic team of Dietetic Assistants, Senior Dietitians, which will be led by dedicated Band 7 Specialist Dietitians. The successful individual will be involved in the dietetic assessment and treatment of a variety of patients within these specialty areas under the guidance of the Dietitians.
There will also be opportunities to become competent in measuring a range of anthropometric measures, assist in quality improvement projects and health promotion initiatives both face to face and via social media.
The applicant must have skills, knowledge and experience of caring for people who are malnourished and dehydrated in a busy, acute NHS hospital.
Being flexible, patient-centred, organised, have good communication skills and able to keep accurate record-keeping are essential to this role.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a small friendly team, but you will be part of the larger dietetic team at the QE Hospital of over 50 dietitians covering various specialities. You will work closely with different therapy colleagues and the dietetic team to help develop the general medicine services. You will be under the supervision of Dietitians, supporting the provision of a nutrition and dietetic service to patients.
The successful individual will take on a valuable role in supporting the assessment and treatment of a variety of patients so the applicants will ideally have experience with dealing with members of public, be able to demonstrate good communication skills along side an interest in food and nutrition and improving overall health and wellbeing.
The post is full time (37.5 hours) although applications are welcomed for any part time or job share opportunities.
