Job summary

The Birmingham PET Centre is a dedicated PET CT department. The variety of PET CT investigations seen at UHB would not be provided at an average district general hospital.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join a caring dedicated and supportive team who is interested in working at the forefront of diagnostic imaging: PET CT.

We currently have a vacancy for a Band 3 PET CT Bookings and Reception Officer (30 hours) and welcome applications from innovative and enthusiastic administrators who would like to join our team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The PET-CT department will be expanding into a new dedicated 2 camera PET facility to meet increasing demand across this fascinating area of imaging. You will carry out a wide range of administrative duties which cover patient bookings and referrals.

The Birmingham PET Centre is subject to The National PET Contract. This contract demands turnaround times of less than 7 working days from receipt of referral to scheduling, scanning and reporting, with 75% completed within 5 days.

We have one of the busiest scanners in the country where shift patterns and flexibility is paramount to cover weekends and evenings.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is a member of a multidisciplinary team that provides a comprehensive administrative service to departments and patients.

You will have responsibility for performing a wide range of administrative duties, including patient referrals for all ages and who are referred for a wide range of illness, including cancer.

You will be actively involved in the management of waiting lists and patient bookings.

The post-holder works in a highly specialised area which requires consideration of Referral to Treatment procedures to ensure that patients are referred, booked and seen in a timely manner.

You will be required to work as part of a small, dedicated team.

You will be a team player with enthusiasm and thrive to work in a time critical environment.

You will possess excellent communications and organisation skills with the ability to be adaptable.

The successful candidate will be willing to be flexible to meet service needs.

This role is specific to 3 x 10 hours days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and at times a rotated Saturday).

Experience with fluctuating workloads and ever-changing demands are essential, and administrative systems within the NHS are desirable.

The post requires someone who can be use their own initiative, working unsupervised at times with attention to detail whilst working in a fast-dynamic environment.

  • Good standard of general education to GCSE level or equivalent including Maths and English.
