LOCUM CONSULTANT IN SEXUAL HEALTH & HIV MEDICINE - 7.5 PA post
Applications are invited to apply for a locum consultant post in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine.
The sexual health service (branded as Umbrella) provides an integrated sexual health service to the entire population of Birmingham and Solihull. The main hub is based at the purpose-built Whittall Street Clinic in Birmingham and there are seven satellite clinics locations across Birmingham and Solihull. The service deals with approximately 100,000 patient episodes per annum.
The post also includes the opportunity of working within the largest department of HIV medicine in the West Midlands with over 3000 patients. The post holder will participate in the management and clinical care of both inpatients and outpatients; supported by an experienced and dedicated multidisciplinary team comprising of clinical nurse specialists, Health Advisors, Pharmacists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Dieticians and Occupational Therapists.
This post provides an opportunity to join an established and proactive consultant team to respond to the needs of our growing service. Applicants must be either on, or eligible for entry on, the GMC specialist register for Genito-Urinary Medicine.
Applicants must be on the GMC register and hold a licence to practise.
Main duties of the job
*Provision of a complex and high-quality service in all aspects of contraceptive and sexual health, STI diagnosis and management, Genito-urinary medicine presentations, including syphilis, genital and pelvic pain syndromes, genital dermatology and HIV diagnosis. This will include adoption and maintenance of best practice guidelines as offered by BASHH, BHIVA, FSRH and NICE, and continuing to enhance service profile and engagement with local, regional and national colleagues, groups and networks.
*Provision of specialist clinical services dependant on service needs and the skills and interests of the individual.
*Assessment and supervision of HIV pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP and PEPSE), provision and management.
*Provide clinical advice and support when requested by other primary, secondary and tertiary care services.
*Maintain clinical skills and professional accreditation, to include meeting the CPD requirements of the appropriate professional bodies.
*Contribute actively to MDT meetings.
*Maintain accurate and legible records of clinical work and to use IT as appropriate.
*Complete administrative duties relating to patients' care such as: dictating letters; reviewing the results of investigations and acting upon abnormal results; dealing with clinical incidents and complaints.
*Support and contribute to the professional development of medical, nursing and other staff, as appropriate.
