Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 physiotherapist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team.

The successful candidate will participate in our 4 monthly physiotherapy rotational scheme including Trauma, Burns, Oncology , Cardiothoracic, Medicine, MSK outpatients, Specialist Surgery, Neurosciences, Stroke & Critical Care. There are also out of Trust rotations including MSK OP Gym, Orthopaedics, Hydrotherapy & Learning Disabilities.

This is an ideal opportunity to develop your clinical reasoning, communication and problem-solving skills, to become an effective member of the MDT & provide a high standard physiotherapy service.

The post holder will participate in delivery of out of hours services during weekends, & overnight on call.

The successful candidate will have access to regular clinical supervision, peer support and a range of training opportunities. You will be supported in participating in annual appraisals & to complete your preceptorship in your first year of working within the trust.

This will be a 2 stage interview process, the first stage will be a virtual initial assessment the second stage will be face to face interviews. Please note, if you are unsuccessful at stage one, you will not be invited to the second stage.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, a flexible approach & the ability to work autonomously. They should possess excellent organisational, time management & problem solving skills. The individual will be able to perform physiotherapeutic assessment of patients who have diverse presentations & complex physical/psychological conditions. They will need good clinical reasoning & prioritisation skills to provide a high standard of physiotherapy care.

The individual should have relevant clinical experience for this post, & will need experience of working within the acute NHS in an MDT. They should provide evidence of relevant courses & training plus commitment to ongoing CPD. The successful candidate will be responsible for their own caseload within their rotation, working with regular line management. They will receive regular clinical supervision e.g formal training, clinical reasoning sessions, peer review & case conferences.

The individual will be supported to become involved with supervision, education & assessment of physiotherapy students on placement, and will be involved in teaching & training of therapy assistant staff. We run a comprehensive in service education programme, and band 5 staff are fully supported to complete their preceptorship. We offer a buddy system for new band 5 starters to the department.

Band 5 staff are expected to undertake on-call & emergency duty work once they have completed our comprehensive competency programme.
