Job summary

The Stroke Service at Heartlands offers an exciting development opportunity.

You will need have a high level of knowledge and skills in Acute Stroke.

We are recruiting two trainee ACPs to join the ward and non-ward-based stroke team. Stroke values the ACP workforce who have been working in our team for many years.

The tACP will develop skills to deliver a comprehensive service for potential stroke patients, presenting via The Emergency Department, telephone or internal referral.

The tACP will become the first line of contact for internal and external teams, with responsibility for triaging need and prioritising management including onward referrals.

The successful candidate will currently work in Acute or Hyperacute stroke services and be able to demonstrate educational potential to become an ACP.

Training will be in several environments.

Acute ward environments.

High risk TIA clinic.

Follow up clinics.

ED.

General medical and surgical areas.

They will enrol in and complete the ACP training at Warwick University.

The tACP will commence at band 7 and migrate to band 8a when all clinical and educational aspects of the training have been successfully completed.

The stroke service at Heartlands is at the beginning of a workforce growth to meet the new challenges in the service as we rebuild following significant changes during and after COVID.

Main duties of the job

1. ACP team are first line contacts for stroke services at BHH.

2. Rapid recognition of onsite stroke patients who require assessment / drip and ship to QE for interventional input or HASU care.

3. Initial triage of all internal and external referrals to BHH stroke service. Direct to clinics, give A&G advice, review in person or refer on for other clinical advice. Ensure minimal delays in decision making and rapid access to best clinical pathway.

4. Run TIA and small stroke clinics to allow early discharge decisions, admission avoidance and stroke prevention.

5. Work within inpatient settings at BHH.

6. Audit / deliver clinical scrutiny of stroke pathway for UHB.

7. Be involved in research opportunities.

8. Teach in a variety of local and national settings.

  • * Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body ( NMC /HCPC / GPC)
  • * Post Graduate Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience.
  • * MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice/ Level 7 equivalent portfolio or minimum of 120 CATs and working towards full MSc(must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice )--
  • Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7
  • * Non -- Medical Prescribing Course
  • * Advanced Life Support Qualification
  • * Recognised Teaching & Assessing/ Mentoring Qualification / Course

  • * Extensive post registration experience at a senior level in specialty area including significant and relevant senior clinical and leadership experience.
