Job summary

This is a Heartlands Hospital post commencing asap until 2nd of Sep 2025 with a possibility of extension for another 6 months. This post requires the post holder to work at equivalent level of a registrar / Tier 2 Paediatric ST4+ trainee covering a vacant slot in the Neonatal Rota.

Main duties of the job

This post is based entirely at Heartlands Hospital covering the Tertiary Neonatal service. There will be no requirement for input in General Paediatrics at Heartlands or Good Hope. The post-holder will be a member of the Tier 2 registrar team will play a full part in the medical management of patients on the Neonatal unit, transitional care and postnatal wards. They will also respond to labour suite emergencies. There is a 1 in 9 rolling rota which is EWTD and will be new contract compliant.

The post is well supported by a full tier of Tier 1 doctors who are present on site 24 hours a day. Consultants are also present on site from 9 am till 9 pm each weekday and weekends and are easily approachable in and out of hours.

You will be expected to participate actively in the education programme as well as audit activities. You will have a named educational supervisor and will be encouraged to develop and follow a Personal development plan. The post holder will have opportunity develop neonatal POCUS skills and simulation skills.

  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Recent Neonatal experience within NHS
  • *Postgraduate degree in paediatrics
  • *NLS or ARNI Provider

Experience

Essential

  • *Able to demonstrate basic clinical knowledge appropriate to level of responsibility.
  • *Confident in venepuncture, cannulations, neonatal term and preterm intubations, umbilical venous and arterial line insertions
  • *Ability to assess sick neonates and initiate appropriate assessment and management. Seek senior support where appropriate and recognise limitations.
  • *Accurate written and effective verbal communication with team members, parents and children.

  • Knowledge of local population needs
  • Knowledge of Trust policies and protocols relating to human resources, financial management, clinical governance and health & safety
