Band 6/7 Senior Support Pharmacist Acute Medicine

The closing date is 05 June 2025

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for proactive and dynamic individuals with vision, drive and enthusiasm and an appropriate level of knowledge and skill to join the Pharmacy team as the Senior Support Pharmacists Acute Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth site of the UHB Trust.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to join our clinical pharmacy team as Senior Support Pharmacist Acute Medicine, based on the Queen Elizabeth site. If you are a clinical pharmacist who has worked as a pharmacist in hospital pharmacy, covering a range of specialties, or have the ability to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, and are ready for the next step in your career then this could be the job for you.

Applicants who don't meet the criteria in the person specification relating to diploma status but who can demonstrate at least 12 months post-registration hospital experience are invited to apply and will be appointed in a progressional post under Agenda for Change Annex 21 (payment at 75% of the maximum band 7 pay, uplifted to the starting pay of a band 7 as per Agenda for Change on completion of the first year of clinical diploma or NHSE/RPS Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway and 12 months experience at band 7). Applicants will then progress on to the independent prescribing course.

Main duties of the job

You will deliver a high quality specialist clinical pharmacy service, and there will be a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing leadership and mentoring skills to the next level.

You will be introduced to core directorate activities - reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, including review of PGDs and relevant policies.

In addition you will take on enhanced roles relating to education and training, such as developing training programmes and involvement with training of new doctors. You will have responsibility for the supervision of less experienced members of the team including junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.

You will be a highly motivated individual and a team player with well-developed communication skills and a desire to use your knowledge, skills and experience to improve patient care and influence healthcare professionals in the best use of medicines.

You will join a team of clinical pharmacists who provide the on-call service with a back-up provided by the Specialist and Advanced Clinical Pharmacists.
