Job summary

The post holder will:

Lead on multi-disciplinary training at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust

Provide strong, visible and effective clinical and managerial leadership as part of the maternity senior leader's team.

Provide clinical and educational support for all levels of midwifery, medical and support staff and maintain accurate records on the Trust training database.

Contribute to the multi-disciplinary clinical audit and governance activities. The post holder will assist with the review of published evidence including relevant national, regional and local reports.

Be a first line manager of a small team within the Professional development and education (PDE) work stream.

Main duties of the job

To work collaboratively with the senior team to implement, deliver and evaluate effective multi-disciplinary training within the maternity services at UHB NHS Trust

Lead the development of educational programmes and resources in accordance with Trust priorities and training needs analysis for multi-disciplinary staff groups including nurses and allied health professionals

Ensure proactive cascade of learning from incidents and complaints as an essential element of the education pathway.

Leads the development of competency based training

Leads forums on staff development

Promotes a multidisciplinary approach to learning.

Evaluate and audit training delivery by the team and make necessary changes following evidence based educational models.

Utilises appropriate change management strategies to facilitate change in the clinical environment

Participate in the implementation of the Patient and Public Involvement Strategy, diversity and disability requirements and other related policies which impact upon educational programmes.

Acts as a link with external Higher Education institutes to ensure appropriate clinical support for all learners. Participate in university course curriculum planning where appropriate

Continually review the way training and education is delivered to ensure it meets service needs

Monitor changes to midwifery practice nationally and advise the senior midwifery team accordingly.

Plan and organise educational programmes/courses to meet service needs
