Job summary
2024 saw our new 45 million elective hub at Solihull Hospital open, Heartlands Treatment Centre is now fully operational, and our services continue to expand at Good Hope and QE.
Our clinical Laboratories department are thrilled to receive new investment from the Board which is being directly invested within the Haematology teams.
With progress comes opportunity- starting with recruitment of Biomedical Scientists.
As a band 5 HCPC registered biomedical scientist within the team, you will be trained and supported in the analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and reporting of samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care.
All of this will see you give analysis, technical validation, interpretive decisions, and report of samples to achieve the objectives of efficient and effective patient care, and effective resource management UHB.
The post holder will be required to undertake their responsibilities within any of the sections of the Department and at laboratory supported facilities across UHB, including Haematology, Coagulation and Blood transfusion.
Consideration will be given to those with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent, with a completed IBMS generic portfolio and HCPC.
Main duties of the job
Our team receive over half a million requests annually and our laboratories are ISO 15189 and IBMS accredited with MHRA approval.
Each member of our Laboratories team has a direct impact on the patients who reply on us. Your role will see you safely handle, use and dispose of biological samples including blood, urine, CSF and other body fluids/samples and hazardous and/or radioactive chemicals.
You will be motivated to ensure compliance with good laboratory practice, quality assurance procedures in accordance with the standards of UKAS ISO 15189: 2022/23 and in line with Trust and departmental health and safety policies.
Supported by the wider team you will ensure all results are reported within the agreed turnaround time and report any non-compliance. See JD for full description of duties.
In return you can expect to be supported in your development contract with regular 1:1's, expose to training modules and material to ensure your success.
