Job summary

An exciting opportunity to join the screening team has arisen to cover maternity leave.

*The post holder will support the maternity screening leads in the implementation and co-ordination of all key objectives in relation to the Antenatal and Newborn Screening (ANNB) Programmes for the NHS Midlands and East Cluster and for University Hospitals Birmingham (HGS).

*Will provide information, support and counselling service for women considering or undergoing prenatal tests.

*Support leads in the delivery of local screening policies and embed best practice for screening programmes and services.

*Ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, effective and equitable screening programmes that meet the outcomes set out in the Public Health Agenda.

*Support continuous quality improvement through the implementation of standards, ongoing data collection and reporting systems and through a programme of monitoring, evaluation and feedback.

*Adhere to the quality assurance structures for screening programmes that will ensure compliance with national standards.

*Support the maternity unit in the day to day clinical duties. Undertaking specific delegated activities and responsibilities as required.

*Represent the ANNB Screening co-ordinator or Deputy ANNB Screening co-ordinator in their absence if required.

Main duties of the job

To provide an effective and professional service and care to patients ensuring that the highest of standards are maintained at all times.

The post holder will be required to analyse and deliver positive screening results to women. Provide support and information in relation to further testing and options available.

Be able to perform phlebotomy when required for facilitation of screening tests.

To ensure that the results are interpreted accurately and necessary action is taken as a result.

Ensure appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to, contributing to guideline update when required.

To ensure that appropriate advice, guidance and support is provided to all users, where the information is complex, highly sensitive and delicate where there may be significant barriers to understanding.

To effectively support patients through the delivery of very difficult news recognising individual social and domestic circumstances. To ensure all information is communicated sensitively and objectively to allow appropriate decisions to be made.

To provide regular training in both formal and informal settings, providing evidence based advice and support in own speciality to other professionals e.g. mandatory training day, 1:1 training etc.

To ensure that all appropriate medical records and/or test results are appropriately documented in accordance with Trust policies.

Gain knowledge and experience in maintaining screening failsafe processes.
