Job summary
An exciting and new career development opportunity has arisen within our endoscopy department at university Hospital Birmingham Good Hope Hospital Site for a specialist Capsule Endoscopy Practitioner to work closely alongside our lead clinician gastroenterologist team.
The post holder will be responsible for the planning, assessment, identification of patients suitable for capsule endoscopy procedures and will have responsibility for the booking, coordination and delivery of the procedure including post discharge care and advice and administration to patients.
Post procedure the capsule endoscopy practitioner will preview capsule endoscopy videos and document initial findings prior to discussing with a gastroenterologist.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
*Develop individual competence and knowledge which will support the provision and evaluation of seamless specialist nursing services under the supervision of a gastroenterologist.
*Be supported/ supervised by a more experienced registered practitioners/ gastroenterologist to enable achievement of competence in agreed areas of specialist practice through exposure, training, and education.
*Develop specialist knowledge and skills, demonstrated through the provision of advice /education and support to staff, patients, families, and carers.
*You will be supported by a more experienced nurse or nurses to enable you to achieve competence in agreed areas of specialist practice through exposure, training, and education.
*Contribute to the on-going development of the service, supporting the updating of policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
*Be accountable for safe, effective clinical practice working as part of a multi-disciplinary defined team, supporting team performance, ensuring efficient and effective use of physical and human resources, and will also provide / deliver a range of educational and training packages to health care staff and patients.

- *Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- *Portfolio of certified / accredited post registration professional development activity in Endoscopy

- *Post registration experience in Endoscopy / gastroenterology, with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice
- *In depth knowledge of endoscopic procedures
- *In depth understanding of video capsule procedures with willingness to undertake training/ education to an agreed level of competence
- *Demonstrable understanding of the enhanced nature of the role and the level of responsibility / accountability related to the position.
- *Knowledge of JAG standards associated with Endoscopy and can relate this to the role.
- *Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
