We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Nurse with an interest in Inflammatory Research.
Working in a Clinical Research Facility can give you the opportunity to practice all your nursing clinical skills in a new and exciting context. The role of the Research Nurse combines traditional patient care and nursing duties with the less familiar world of research protocols and cutting-edge technologies.
The Inflammation Research Facility (IRF) is a collaboration between UHB, University of Birmingham (UoB) and the NIHR/Wellcome Trust. This purpose-built research environment undertakes research projects from a variety of clinical specialities with an emphasis on inflammatory processes. The IRF offers 6 consulting rooms & a 3-bed bay for daytime stays along with specialist facilities including a biopsy suite.
The facility links directly to the UoB research labs which provides unique synergies between laboratory & clinical data offering a holistic and innovative approach to chronic inflammation research.
As a research nurse you will work in collaboration with the Inflammation research teams & within the team on the NIHR Clinical Research Facility to deliver studies on various research portfolios, these include rheumatology/respiratory/neurology.

Main duties of the job
As the Band 5 research nurse you will be working alongside other nursing team members to assist in the planning and implementation of clinical research trials within the Inflammatory research facility. This role involves liaison with Principal Investigators and other members of the multidisciplinary team to develop and manage trial protocols to ensure a high quality of data collection, ensuring participant safety and welfare. The post holder will be given induction packages both Trust and Research specific, with a follow-on competency booklet. Protocol/trial specific training will be provided at a local level.
To be successful in this role you will need to be a Registered Nurse, with considerable experience at Band 5 in an acute care setting. Knowledge of the research process and GCP would be advantageous. Be competent or have a willingness to train for extended roles which include venepuncture, cannulation, spirometry and administration of intravenous therapies and to assist in our biopsy/ultrasound scanning suite.
