Consultant Dermatologist
Applications are invited for an enthusiastic Consultant Dermatologist to try out our Dermatology Department at the University Hospitals, Birmingham Foundation Trust based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The service is one of the largest in the West Midlands delivering care to over 90,000 patients a year. We provide a variety of specialised services including a regional Lymphoma Service, Mohs micrographic surgery, Teledermatology, Advice and guidance, specialist medical dermatology and tertiary vulval services. The service is delivered by a dedicated team of Consultant Dermatologists supported by resident doctors (SpR and JSD) and a team of specialist nurses supporting phototherapy, skin surgery, and biologic therapy for Atopic dermatitis, Psoriasis and Hidradenitis suppuritiva.
The post is to cover maternity leave for a skin lymphoma post but presents an exciting opportunity to also develop your medical and surgical dermatology alongside the wider team with a view to considering application to a permanent post in surgical dermatology in the future. The ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is vital. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will contribute to increasing the national profile of the department.
A strong commitment from the appointee to the Department and involvement with governance and audit is expected.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible, together with fellow Consultants, Resident Doctors including 4 SpRs and nursing colleagues, for both outpatient and inpatient work.
The post holder will undertake Cutaneous Lymphoma, medical dermatology and 2 week wait skin cancer clinics, plus a surgical list alongside our current Dermatological Surgeons. The post holder will also participate in a rota providing senior cover of emergency work currently on a 1:10 basis from 9-7pm daily.
The post holder will join the weekly specialist skin cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and we also hold a specialist dermatopathology and medical dermatology MDT weekly on Monday mornings. The post holder will also participate in departmental operational and governance meetings and audit activities. There is also the opportunity to attend the Royal Society of Medicine Dermatology Section meetings and the Midlands and West Midlands regional meetings including Dermatogenetics and Dermatopathology.
