Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Therapy Assistant to join the Trauma team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team.

This full time post will support the Trauma therapy team working alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, and be supported by an enthusiastic team of skilled multi-professionals, including a fellow Senior Therapy Assistant.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical skills with patients following Major Trauma, traumatic brain injury, amputation and limb reconstruction, working with a supportive multi-disciplinary team.

Candidates must have previous NHS experience working as a therapy assistant, therapy support worker or rehabilitation assistant (physiotherapy or occupational therapy).

The individual should have good communication and organisational skills and be able to work independently using their own initiative to manage their own work.

The post holder will have a delegated caseload and will work within agreed treatment plans, protocols and policies.

You will have access to regular clinical supervision, peer support and a range of training opportunities. You will be supported in participating in annual appraisals, and will be supported to complete a competency handbook

Main duties of the job

Main duties & responsibilities will include a requirement to undertake specific skilled support work to aid physical & functional maintenance, treatment or rehabilitation of patients, delivering a range of delegated skilled therapy treatments. This will include supporting patients on their rehabilitative journey by working on mobility, exercises, cognitive rehabilitation & functional assessments for activities of daily living to promote independence. You will be required to measure & provide appropriate mobility aids & specific orthotics to support your patients, as directed by the registered therapist.

The successful candidate may be required to visit patients' homes, or may accompany the registered therapist to assess, measure and fit aids, or to assess the environment as directed. You will be required to support the discharge of patients including establishing an appropriate discharge destination, ordering appropriate equipment & supporting registered staff in completing onward referrals.

You will be involved in regular therapy team meetings as well as ward based handovers & multi-disciplinary meetings. Alongside a clinical caseload you will also support the therapy department in ordering and managing equipment, including wheelchairs, as well as administrative duties.

An ability to work as part of a team is essential & to be able to work independently with guidance. A car driver is desirable.
