Job summary

A vacancy has arisen for a Band 3 Physiotherapy Assistant to join our large and dynamic Physiotherapy department.

The Physiotherapy Assistant role supports registered Physiotherapy staff by carrying out rehabilitation alongside and under the direction of the physiotherapists. The role also includes other healthcare related tasks, such as assisting patients with personal care, washing, dressing and feeding, and basic administration duties including equipment ordering and sending referrals.

The post is rotational and will involve working predominantly in an inpatient setting at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. This will give opportunities to work in multiple specialties across inpatients, and may include Trauma and Orthopaedics, Cardiothoracic, Neurosciences, Specialist Surgery, Medicine and Older adults. There is also one rotation in Musculoskeletal Outpatients.

There is training provided at both a rotation specific and general Band 3 level. There are opportunities to develop skills, including working towards a Band 4 post in certain areas.

The initial interview will be a virtual interview week beginning the 27th January. Candidates who successfully pass this initial interview will then procced to a face-to-face interviews week beginning 3rd February onwards.

Main duties of the job

Patient related tasks are selected and delegated by the Physiotherapist and include mobility and exercise activities, assisting with specific patient treatments and dealing with equipment.

You will also be involved in assisting with personal care of patients, including toileting, washing, dressing, and feeding.

Making telephone calls and speaking with relatives of patients may also be involved.

Duties also include administration tasks such as emailing referrals and ordering equipment.

Applicants must have recent experience of working within healthcare.

Applicants must have proven communication skills and demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team. They must also be able to work independently with guidance.
