Band 2 Vascular Access Support Worker

Job summary

The Vascular Access Team are looking for an assistant/ support worker.

You will work under the direction of registered practitioners from the Vascular Access Team, undertaking aspects of clinical care such as repositioning the patient in preparation for the procedure. You will perform and support the practitioner in the preparation of the equipment and sterile environment in the performance of the procedure.

You will work as part of a team and seek advice and guidance from more senior staff when necessary.

You will carry out technical and clerical duties such as maintaining stock levels and completing a weekly inventory. There will be a requirement to obtain competence in a range of clinical skills and demonstrate proficiency whilst in post.

You will work shifts patterns associated with the team / service/ site.

Main duties of the job

Required to obtain competence in a range of clinical skills and demonstrate proficiency whilst in post. Undertake / assist with duties including the preparation of patients for procedure / treatment. Through practice, achieve and maintain proficiency in a range of clinical skills such as maintaining sterile environment while preparing equipment, opening sterile packs into the cleaned trolley, preparing sterile gowns, gloves and the necessary items needed for the procedure, handing sterile items to the practitioners when needed whilst the procedure are being performed at the bedside. Support practitioners with clinical activities such as preparing the patient, offering support to the patient and practitioners. Always maintain patient confidentiality and preservation of dignity.

Essential

  • *Successful completion of the Trust based numeracy & literacy test or provide evidence to confirm achievement of Maths / English qualifications at Level2 or above
  • *Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience. Level 2 examples: GCSE Grades 9-4 (A-C) Level 2 Diploma in health care support / NVQ ,Functional
  • *Skills Level 2 Internationally educated applicants will have to evidence UK ENIC ( the UK National Information Centre ) Statements of compatibility

  • *Experience of working / participating as part of a team as an employee / volunteer.
  • *Ability to demonstrate/ articulate an understanding of the role and tasks involved and can describe the physical and emotional aspects of the role and some duties
  • *Can link the Trust values (Kind , Bold , Connected ) to the role and provide examples from personal experience which demonstrate understanding in relation to the role
  • *Can explain why training / education and approaches to care need to be consistent in relation to safety and patient experience
