Job summary

We are seeking an outstanding clinician to complement the current EDM service at Good Hope Hospital.

The Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism provide a comprehensive regional and national service, contributing to the EDM inpatients and outpatient Service.

The successful candidate will join a wider team of consultants and participate in covering inpatients and out-patient clinics, other direct clinical care plus a cohort of General Medical Outliers, including rostered weekend ward rounds.

The candidate will also be expected to participate in the GIM on call on a pro rota basis shared with other medical consultants.

The department trains the full range of resident doctors and makes a large contribution to undergraduate education. The post holder would be expected to contribute to these activities.

Please note that due to the changing needs of the service the post holders will be required to adopt a flexible approach together with the other consultant members of the EDM team.

Job responsibilities

We are seeking an outstanding clinician to complement the current EDM service at UHBFT that comprises. The service has strong MDT bases that provide regional services and national services in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Good Hope Hospital, contributing to the EDM inpatient and outpatient service.

The post holders will be responsible for inpatients on the EDM wards plus a cohort of General Medical outliers including rostered weekend ward rounds. They will also contribute to the General Internal Medicine on call rota. The post holders will provide EDM out-patient clinics plus other direct clinical care as detailed in the outlined job plan at the end of this document.

The department trains the full range of Resident doctors and makes a large contribution to undergraduate education. The post holders would be expected to contribute to these activities.

Leadership & Governance

*Leadership of a team of trainee doctors caring for inpatients on EDM and allocated outlying wards.

*Taking a significant role in clinical governance within the EDM department.

*Deputise for colleagues including covering for absence on leave and short notice cover in exceptional circumstances.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills

The post holders must have well-developed listening and communication skills and be able to deal effectively with a wide range of clinicians, managers and professionals both within and outside the Trust.

The post holders must have well-developed presentational skills, good report writing skills and make effective use of presentation aids.

Planning and organising

Support the development of a culture of continuous improvement, developing and contributing to service developments and the formulation of business cases to support these. Effectively plan, communicate and execute change.

Analysis and data management

*Develop methods to collect, collate and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data relevant to service delivery.

*Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of all information governance and professional standards.

*Provide accurate analysis and interpretation of clinical documents, national government policy guidance, and other sources of information in the development of the division's aims and objectives
