Job summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity within the Cardiology team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a Band 5 Team Leader. This role would be ideal for a person who already has NHS Administration or Medical Secretary experience.

Cardiology is a very busy department; we currently have over 30 consultants. The successful candidate will work alongside Consultants, Operational Staff, Secretaries and Clinic Co-ordinators and Bookers to deliver Cardiology care to patients both locally and nationwide for some of our specialist services. We are looking for an enthusiastic Team Leader to be the line manager for Medical Secretaries within our growing team.

We are looking for someone who is well organised, committed, has strong interpersonal skills and professional ethics. The successful candidate must have the desire to deliver a top-quality service. Many times, you will be the face of the department as you will have contact with Cardiology Patients, Consultants, Nurses, and Allied Health Care Professionals we work with.

To be the ideal candidate for this post:

You will have some NHS Admin or Operational experience

You will have NHS Line Management experience

Excellent time management, organisational skills

Resilience to work in a demanding service with a large admin team

Knowledge of RTT targets

Main duties of the job

Manage sickness and HR issues appropriately with support

Manage annual leave of your team

Line manage the administration staff which includes secretaries, clerical staff within the team

Supervise tasks when required

Responsible for the induction and training of all new members of staff , undertake appraisals, monitor Mandatory Training compliance

Demonstrate own activities to new / less experienced staff

Take a lead role in the recruitment of administration staff

Undertake surveys and routine audits of own work as and when required

Have a personal duty of care for all equipment and resources used

Maintain stock control such as stationery, equipment etc

To handle invoices or purchase orders appropriately and forward to the relevant department

Orders stock and stationary, authorised signatory for travel arrangements, meeting expenses

Understand your establishment of staff, and their hours of work

Authorised signatory for systems such as "eroster" and "allocate"

Work collaboratively as part of the management team

Work within and keep up to date with National and Trust legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures, protocols and code of conduct and ensure they are adhered to

Implement changes to working practices for own work area when needed

To establish and continue improvement of office information systems and procedures to ensure an efficient and effective service

Be responsible for confidentiality in line with Trust policy and procedures
