Job summary

We have the opportunity for an experienced health care assistant to join our Paediatric Diabetes service working across our Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals on a part time basis for a 12 month fixed term period. This is a great opportunity for personal and professional development, to extend knowledge and skills of working with children with Diabetes.

You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting children, young people and their families in clinics, inpatient areas and their own homes and communities. The team follows National Best Practice Guidance for Paediatric Diabetes when assessing the health, well-being, engagement and outcomes for children and young people and promotes healthy lifestyles through effective health education programmes and activities.

All of our Diabetes team participate in and support the provision of inpatient care, outpatient care, school care planning and schools education, emotional well-being strategies and at all times promotes inclusion for children with Diabetes in their families and local communities.

You will learn how to complete physical observations in relation to Diabetes, contribute to planned care and support the Multi-disciplinary team to promote good Diabetes management.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent skills in communication, organisation and time management and will be expected to participate in regular clinical supervision and annual appraisal.

Main duties of the job

Our ideal candidate will be able to organise themselves and daily tasks to deliver effective and efficient care. We support children & young people of all ages up to transition to adult services and our health care assistant will be involved with all ages and abilities.

In meeting the needs of our Diabetes children and young people you will liaise with multi-agency colleagues, provide health promotion activities, support staff training, liaise with parents/carers and support referrals to appropriate agencies.

Our health care assistant will support the nurse team with general stock management, clinic management and patient records administration and contribute to data inputting, communications to families and clinical letters alongside our team administrator.

We are looking for a highly motivated health care assistant who has experience with children and young people and has an understanding of the impact of long term conditions on a young persons life and well being.

This is an exciting period of change within UHB and we are looking to develop and grow our Paediatric Diabetes service.
