Job summary

We are looking for a Registered Dental Nurse to join our small but well established Orthodontic Team at Good Hope Hospital.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered Dental Nurse to enhance their skills and gain experience in a hospital setting. We are looking for someone who identifies with our trust values and is passionate about holding the high standards of care that we thrive to achieve.

The successful candidate must hold a recognised Dental Nursing qualification and be registered with the General Dental Council. You must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to be approachable, act as a role model and be a good team player.

The job will be based in our Orthodontic Department at Good Hope Hospital but you will also be required to work in our other departments at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Solihull Hospital.

This is a fixed term 12 month contract to cover maternity leave.

Main duties of the job

*Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a range of dental, orthodontic and maxillofacial procedures appropriate to the area of work.

*Ensure the appropriate preparation of surgeries, ensuring the correct instruments, equipment and medicaments are available prior to the commencement of clinic.

*Carry out infection prevention and control procedures to prevent physical, chemical and microbiological contamination in the surgery.

*Prepare equipment, materials and patients for dental radiography.

*Ensure the correct patient records, x-rays & models are available prior to treatment and updated.

*Monitor, support and reassure patients, giving appropriate patient advice.

*Assisting in the provision of oral care encouraging and supporting patients through their dental experience.

*Communicate effectively to patients, parents & carers who may be nervous, have communication difficulties or complex medical needs. Providing pre and post-operative advice and instruction for routine & specialist dental procedures

*Be responsible for the safe disposal & tracking of instruments or equipment requiring decontamination following procedures.

*To assist the Senior Dental Nurses in the smooth running of clinics.

*Prioritise using initiative to deal with matters independently.

*Work closely with all members of the Dental team to provide a supportive environment for each patient.

Essential

  • *National certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ level 3 Dental nursing qualification. As well as relevant post registration dental nursing experience.
  • *Current GDC registration

Experience

  • *Experience of working with range of patients including children, the elderly or frail, those with a learning disability or cognitive impairment.
  • *Knowledge and understanding of a range of dental, orthodontic, maxillofacial & ENT procedures, appropriate to the area of work.
