Band 7 Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Physics) Full Time Permanent Post
We are seeking to recruit a registered Clinical Scientist (Radiotherapy Physics) at our Queen Elizabeth Hospital site to perform and assist in all areas of the Radiotherapy Physics service, including dosimetry, machine QC, treatment planning, and imaging. The Radiotherapy Physics Service has 48 WTE scientific and technical staff working to help deliver approximately 60,000 radiotherapy patient fractions per year on six Elekta Versa linear accelerators with FFF capability, two TomoTherapy HD units, a Radixact unit and a CyberKnife. The department has three wide-bore CT scanners, a dedicated HDR suite, a superficial x-ray unit and uses the RayStation and Precision planning systems. 4DCT, SABR and SGRT techniques are in routine use, as is a well-developed adaptive planning service.
Main duties of the job
You will undertake a broad range of duties spanning the general area of Radiotherapy Physics, including calibration and QA of linear accelerators, Tomotherapy, and other treatment units, QA on CTs and HDR, as well as general dosimetry, treatment planning and mould room related activities, and patient specific IMRT measurements. There will also be opportunities for involvement in new developments and project work.
Due to the nature of the role the post holder will be required to regularly work evening shifts on at least one to two days per week (typically until 8pm). There will be occasions where flexible working is required, including weekend working.

- *Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in Physics.
- *MSc in radiation physics or medical radiation physics
- *State registration as a Clinical Scientist.
Desirable
- *Corporate membership of a professional body (eg IPEM)
Experience

- *Significant post graduate experience in the application of Medical Physics.
- *Evidence of a record of CPD and appraisal assessments, or equivalent evidence of career progression and continuing learning.
- *Experience of research and development activities.
- *Experience of project management.
- *Highly developed specialist knowledge of Radiotherapy Physics and peripheral knowledge of other areas within Medical Physics.
- *Specialist knowledge of a wide range of clinical radiotherapy techniques.
- *Understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure and staff error, with respect to Radiotherapy Physics. Should have the ability to exercise judgement on complex facts or situations requiring urgent interpretation and analysis, followed by a comparison of the possible options for action.
- *Fluency with UHBT IT packages such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. with good keyboard skills.
- *Expert understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines (eg IRR17, IRMER17, Data Protection Act etc).
- *Needs to understand the hazards posed by, and precautions needed with:
