Job summary

We are thrilled to announce the opening for a Unit Manager in our Emergency Department. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced nurse with a background as a Sister/Charge Nurse in acute/emergency medicine. The role is crucial, as it involves overseeing a dynamic and essential service that caters to the urgent needs of the community. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining high standards of care, fostering a collaborative environment, and driving continuous improvement in patient outcomes. You will be partnered with the Matron, Clinical Service Lead, and Operational team to ensure high-quality, patient-centred care.

As the Unit Manager, you will: Provide strategic leadership and direction to our established ED. Utilise various techniques to set and monitor clinical standards through audits, research, and education. Maintain a strong understanding of rota management, sickness absence, staff welfare, and incident management.

About You: Substantial experience in acute medicine and/or emergency medicine. Ideally educated to degree level with a robust understanding of nursing practices. Competent with key trust systems. Excellent communication/interpersonal skills. A compassionate leader and role model.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the NMC Code of Professional Standards of practice and behaviour and relevant professional guidelines / HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

To carry overall responsibility for the organisation and management of the unit including the supervision of students/ trainees and temporary workers /staff.

To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care

Ensure safe and effective clinical practice, with monitoring. Enhance patient experience.

To support colleagues to lead, manage and develop team performance, promote professionalism and trust.

Ensure efficient and effective use of resources, managing a devolved budget.

Ensure effective capacity management, including effective internal and external transfers of care to different practice settings.

Ensure effective succession planning within all roles associated with the unit.
