Job summary

Respiratory Medicine at Heartlands are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and compassionate qualified or soon to be qualified nurses for Ward 24 and 26

Ward 24 is a busy and dynamic ward, specialising in many different complex respiratory conditions including COPD, asthma, bronchiectasis and ILD. We provide individualised care for acute respiratory patients and we have inpatient areas for the Birmingham Regional Severe Asthma service. We also have an inpatient area providing level 2 care for Non-Invasive Ventilation and patients with Tracheostomies. Ward 26 is a Regional Adult Cystic fibrosis centre with inpatient beds and an outpatient department. This provides specialised holistic care supported by a large MDT.

You should have a keen interest in Respiratory Nursing and be able to work as part of a well-established and dynamic nursing team and you will work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary teams. You should be committed and passionate about providing a high standard of nursing care with a keen interest in achieving new skills.

The ward provides care over a 7 day week period and the expectation will be that successful candidates will work on a rotational basis to include long days, weekends and night duties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person centred evidence based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementing and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in charge of department and will be responsible for supporting and supervising junior members of staff and students on the ward.

They will be required to work as part of a team although have the clinical skills and knowledge to work independently when required using safe and effective judgement.

The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agency, service users, their carers and families.

The post holder will contribute to the practice development within their clinical care setting and work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and will be responsible for completing and work based training associated with the role.
