Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Respiratory Therapy team to lead respiratory training and education within the Therapy teams across Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital sites. We are looking for a forward thinking, innovative and dynamic Physiotherapist.

This role will focus on delivery and further development of respiratory training for therapy staff, including physiotherapy on call training. The post holder will support efficient, effective and innovative delivery of training and development across multi professional Therapy teams.

You will be supported to undertake significant professional development, through attendance at internal/external courses, opportunity for post graduate study, excellent peer support from senior physiotherapy & AHP colleagues & mentoring through the Trusts career mentoring offer.

The post is based at HGS sites, however as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and you may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis, as a result of development or reorganisation of Trust services.

Applicants will be required to participate in the departmental respiratory overnight on-call system and 7 day working rota within the Respiratory Therapy teams

Main duties of the job

To provide support and guidance to respiratory therapy staff with respect to their clinical roles including through clinical supervision.

To devise and implement action plans for respiratory training within the clinical governance framework of practice highlighted for improvement.

To work clinically within respiratory with all grades of staff.

To ensure effective training is delivered to support respiratory therapy including the physiotherapy on call service.

To accept clinical responsibility for your caseload, and to organise this efficiently in a variety of environments regarding clinical priorities as an autonomous practitioner.

To participate in and assist in the writing/implementation & delivery of the 7-day weekend and on call respiratory rota as an active participant in the service.

To maintain own clinical professional development by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments and incorporate them as necessary.

To be responsible for a designated area of work, as agreed with the Clinical Team Leader, and organise efficiently regarding patients' management.

To be aware of Health and Safety aspects of your work and implement any policies to improve the safety of your work area, including prompt recording and reporting of incidents along the correct pathways.

To comply with and implement organisational and departmental policies & procedures and to be involved in the reviewing, proposing changes and updating appropriately, including those impacting other areas.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.
  • *A levels or equivalent qualification
  • *Diploma / degree in physiotherapy
  • *Registered with HCPC in Physiotherapy
  • *Completion of relevant specialist training e.g. Respiratory On Call Training.

Desirable

  • *Member of the ACPCF and/or ACPRC/ MTS/BTS
  • *To hold or be working towards a Masters degree of Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

Experience

Essential

  • *Relevant experience at band 6 working with patients with a variety of acute and chronic respiratory conditions and/or post-surgical chest problems; to include respiratory failure and NIV and ITU.
  • *Evidence and experience of teaching both informally and formally in a variety of settings.
  • *Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within this speciality.
  • *Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
  • *Supervision of band 5 and student physiotherapists, and assistants. Including evidence of empowering/facilitating their personal development and improved practice.
  • *Demonstration of specialist knowledge in respiratory physiotherapy, across the range of procedures and working practices, with the appropriate theoretical and practical experience.
  • *CPD portfolio showing evidence of attendance at mandatory training and evidence of in-service training.
  • *Evidence of audit / R&D activity on a regular basis.

  • *Attendance at post graduate courses relevant to the respiratory physiotherapy.
