Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Nurse Associate to join our small team of Learning Disability Nurses, nurse associates and trainee nurse associates within the wider Solihull Children's Community Nursing Service. This role involves close working with the children's community and special schools nursing teams and is a great opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, hard working Nurse Associate who is passionate about working with children with Moderate to Severe and profound Learning Disabilities and passionate about ensuring inclusion and accessibility to their local community.

The team provides a high quality service to children and their families concentrating on the following areas: continence, sleep hygiene, behaviour, health promotion and short breaks. You will support individual children and families, attend multidisciplinary meetings, safeguarding meetings and liaise closely with other professionals so excellent communication skills are essential.

This role is for 33 hours per week and is to be worked over 4-5 days. This service is open Monday to Friday, 9am -5pm. This is a community based role so daily access to your own vehicle is essential

Main duties of the job

Ideally you will have experience of working with Children and young people with Moderate to Severe and profound Learning Disabilities and experience in a community setting.

You will be expected to assess children in their home and educational settings, plan strategies in conjunction with children, young people and their parents/carers and support with the implementation of these. Evaluation will be required on an on-going basis and you will effectively manage your own active caseload with supervision from a trained Learning Disability Nurse.

You will be responsible for keeping all clinical and safeguarding records up to date and in line with NMC guidelines and responsible for maintaining high standards of care and practice.

The team undertakes workshops with groups of parents and children and young people and supports medical clinics within schools. You will contribute to the planning and delivery of these.

As a member of this team you will be supported with regular clinical supervision, appraisal and relevant team meetings.
