The peripheral nerve team are a core part of the HaPPN research network and have a portfolio of trials in acute nerve repair, nerve grafting, neuroma management and rehabilitation after nerve injury.

The fellow will be expected to contribute to: the running of Multidisciplinary Team meetings, the upkeep of a nerve database, educational and academic activities within the Nerve Service and recruitment and follow up of patients in trials. The post holder will form part of the middle grade tier within the Hand Surgery Department, alongside Hand Fellows, SpR's from Plastics and Trauma & Orthopaedics and two nationally appointed ATP interface fellows. There will be the opportunity to gain exposure to other Hand Surgery and the fellow will have scheduled hand trauma lists to attend. The Nerve Fellow will be expected to participate in the Hand Fellow on-call rota. Fellows play a crucial role in the provision of emergency services for acutely injured hand patients. They will be expected to assess patients in the emergency department and to provide seamless cover of hand patients, with structured hand-overs and ward rounds occurring in conjunction with the on-call teams.
