Job summary
The post holder will function as practitioner and head of service, leading on care and staff interventions framed by the 2023 NHS Healthcare Chaplaincy Guideline, the UK Board of Health Care Chaplain and Trust values and objectives, to growing a structured professionally lead faith and pastoral care service.
The post holder will take a strategic approach to the faith, religious and pastoral needs of patients, families and staff are met effectively through a person-centred approach.
They will encourage and deepen links with local faith groups within the Birmingham Community, to ensure that religious and spiritual needs are both understood and met.
Provide professional leadership and line management of the Chaplaincy team, Bank & Honorary Chaplain, and Chaplaincy volunteers.
*Responsible (up to agreed levels) with the Trust Lead for Chaplaincy for chaplaincy budgets, their planning and administration, and expenditure.
*Ensure that the Faith Centre, Chapels, Prayer rooms and any other areas designated for spiritual and religious use, are suitably furnished, and properly maintained.
*Lead a cooperative team in delivering faith-based, spiritual, and pastoral care.
*Provide professional leadership and line management of the Chaplaincy team, Bank & Honorary Chaplain, and Chaplaincy volunteers; to have oversight of the on-boarding and development of new members of the team, managing staff capacity and demand requirements.
Main duties of the job
*Advocate for Chaplaincy interests within the Trust and nationally.
*Maintain professional relationships with staff, respecting diversity, and cultural beliefs.
*Collaborate with healthcare teams to integrate spiritual care into patient pathways and plans.
*Cultivate relationships with local faith communities.
*Sit on various Trust Committees, as requested, and agreed by the Trust Lead for Chaplaincy
*Provide and receive pastoral, religious and spiritual support to distressed patients, clients, carers and the bereaved.
*Represent chaplaincy on the trust wide Religious and Spiritual Care Strategy group - Support and develop local and regional networking with local partners and Faith and community groups
*Assess and prioritise the needs of the Chaplaincy team.
*Provide expert faith and pastoral care advice and support which requires comparing complex facts. Interpreting complex situations before advising patients, staff or carers on spiritual issues.
*To analyse and interpret complex multicultural issues.
*Conduct needs assessments to pinpoint service gaps, analyse access barriers, and devise effective strategies.
*To deliver a trust-wide chaplaincy service.
*Always ensure the privacy and dignity of patients and staff across the faith and pastoral care provisions.
*Respond to spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs in complex situations
*Identify and implement improvements in departmental practices.
*Guide discussions on future chaplaincy capacity developments.
