Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join UHB Trust as a substantive Consultant Urologist Specialising in Robotic Pelvic/Bladder Surgery on the QE site. The Urology department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital includes 12 consultants, 1 clinical scientist and a Cancer and Benign Nursing Team with middle grade and junior doctor support. The successful applicant will join a team of Bladder consultant colleagues providing predominantly Robotic Bladder surgery on the Solihull site. Our sites at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital and Community Services, Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield. The Terms and Conditions of service are offered on a 10 Programmed Activity basis. The post includes participation in a 1 in 12 on call rota supported by an on call registrar.

The ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team is vital. It is also anticipated that the successful candidate would contribute to increasing the national profile of the department. A strong commitment from the appointee to the Department and involvement with governance and audit is expected.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the Urology Cancer service at UHB (Based at the QE however with an operating list at Solihull), and work as part of a larger Urology Team that includes both Cancer and Benign Subspecialties. The successful applicant will be expected to be competent in Robotic Surgery and lead on the implementation of Robotic Cystectomy cases at University Hospitals Birmingham.

The post holder will be supported by a dedicated team of specialist trainees and SAS doctors and will have regular outpatient and diagnostic clinics.

The post holder will be expected to also partake in the on-call Rota based at the QE site.

The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practise and is advised to maintain up to date membership of a recognised medical defence organisation. The successful candidate is expected to be aware of local policies and procedures and comply with the standing orders and standing financial instructions of the Trusts.
