Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a clinical trial coordinator within the Research, Development and Innovation (R, D & I) department at UHB. The post is full time, permanent post, based with the Core Delivery team. The post will be based at Heartlands Hospital.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced individual who will be responsible for assisting the research nurses, consultants and data team with various aspects of clinical trial administration/ coordination. The core delivery team cover multiple specialities across the Trust and the post holders will be working on a variety of research studies and clinical trials.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate relevant research experience, preferably in the NHS. You will need to meet the challenge of working autonomously and within a team. The Clinical Trials Coordinator will also be responsible for ensuring the portfolio of trials are run to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards, answering queries and contribute to resolving any technical or administrative barriers to patient recruitment as a key responsibility of the role is to ensure that trials meet their recruitment targets.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should have:

*Excellent organisational/prioritisation skills

*Excellent communication skills with all levels of staff

*IT skills in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, e-mail systems etc

*Be able to work under own initiative and have an ability to prioritise own workload

The post holder will act as the key coordinator for assigned clinical trials to proactively ensure the provision of a high quality and efficient administrative service. You will be involved in work allocation and monitoring within the team, as well as your own workload comprising of trial co-ordination and data management, including study set-up, ongoing study management using your communication skills to liaise with trial sponsors, monitors, core R&I and the wider research community. You will be responsible for providing line management support for the data team members as required by your line manager.

In addition to the above there will be an opportunity to be responsible for assessing and managing the care pathways for patients and carers participating in clinical trials. This will involve taking patient consent for non-intervention studies, the recruitment of, education and monitoring of trial patients and the collection and documentation of accurate data. Where appropriate to carry out or assist with clinical procedures to include taking vital signs, ECG procedures, phlebotomy and the collection and management of tissue or blood samples.
