Job summary

The Estates Department at University Hospitals Birmingham are looking to recruit two enthusiastic Asbestos Officers to join the Asbestos Team initially on a 2-year fixed term/secondment position.

The posts require the candidates to have gained the BOHS P405 qualification (Management of Asbestos in Buildings, including Asbestos Removal) along significant relevant experience of Asbestos Management within a large multi-site healthcare setting.

The posts will require the successful candidates to work across University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) sites at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, Heartlands Hospital, Solihull Hospital, Birmingham Chest Clinic and various Community Sites across the West Midlands ensuring that our Asbestos Management is compliant with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2012, thus keeping our Patients, Staff, Visitors & Contractors safe on all of our sites regarding Asbestos Management.

These are new posts & the successful candidates will be reporting to the Asbestos Manager with support from the Asbestos Technical Support Officer & will form part of The Asbestos Team that supports the Estates Department & Project Teams across UHB.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the asbestos manger in their day-to-day duties

Deputising for the asbestos manager, ensuring that key information is provided to estates staff, projects team and stakeholders.

Taking a pro-active role in ensuring that the asbestos team meets its overall objectives.

Commission asbestos surveys and reports within required timescales and pro-actively monitor the completion of asbestos surveys carried out by the trust's framework asbestos consultants.

To help implement the Trusts asbestos policies and systems for removal, survey and risk management.

To support the Asbestos Manager on developing this for the wider asset portfolio and responsible for monitoring the compliance of asbestos-related guidance and procedures

Liaising with the Trusts framework asbestos consultants and asbestos removal contractors

Supporting the asbestos manager with project management of asbestos removal projects, asbestos surveys and re-inspection surveys.

Managing the Micad asbestos portal & asbestos folder Trust wide

Raising orders, completing service level agreements & iProcurment forms and receipting asbestos related invoices using, Oracle and Sage software packages

To receive requests/enquiries on asbestos-related issues and make decisions on what actions is required.

Filing any new Asbestos hard copy surveys in the relevant Asbestos folder on the Estates hard drive and keeping it up to date

Deputising for the Asbestos manager at site level.
