Do you have a passion for Parenteral Nutrition (PN), Intestinal Failure (IF) and nutrition support? Due to new funding an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Dietitian to work within the Nutrition Support Team. This consists of Gastroenterologists, Nutrition Nurses, Pharmacists, Psychologists and Dietetic Department colleagues.
The successful candidate will be an essential member of the IF team, supporting in the assessment of patients with highly complex nutritional requirements, metabolic instability and complex surgical and medical conditions. Assessment includes the use of biochemistry, anthropometry and technology such as bioelectrical impedance to underpin clinical decision making. The successful candidate will be expected to use advanced decision-making skills to calculate nutritional, fluid and electrolyte requirements in patients with IF and recommend the optimal prescription with support from seniors. This involves using the safest and most effective method of delivery for patients, that may be enteral, parenteral or a hybrid regimen.
The successful candidate will work alongside an established Clinical Specialist IF Dietitian and a Specialist IF Dietitian and training will be offered and provided, where necessary.

Main duties of the job
You will be expected to attend daily Nutrition Support ward rounds where patients with Intestinal Failure are seen, as well as complex enteral patients. You will be expected to assess the nutritional status of patients based on anthropometric measurements, biochemical markers, diet history and other validated methods of nutritional assessment.
You will advise on appropriate artificial feeding routes for patients across all disciplines experiencing difficulties with feeding or meeting their nutritional requirements because of surgery or complex gastrointestinal disease. You will then be expected to contribute to the formulation of individualised evidence-based patient care plans and parenteral nutrition prescriptions, with support from seniors. You will need to take into consideration patient anatomy, prescribed drugs, biochemical derangements, metabolic complications, access issues etc.
You will also be expected to attend Parenteral Nutrition rounds, weekly MDT's, weekly anthropometry rounds, cover HPN clinic where necessary and liaise regularly with a range of disciplines across all specialities in addition to contributing towards a specialist dietetic outpatient service.
