Ward 10 is looking to recruit Band 5 Staff Nurses to join an enthusiastic team committed to delivering the highest standard of care to our patients. This is a 26 bedded mixed sex ward, caring for a range of patients with gastroenterology needs based at Heartlands site. Gastroenterology experience is desirable for this post; although full in house training will be given from ward staff and speciality nurses. A full preceptorship program is also on offer for support and development. Becoming a part of this team will allow you the chance to gain a variety of transferable skills such as complex antibiotic and detox drug regimens, caring for both acute and chronic health conditions including longstanding liver and bowel conditions, pre and post endoscopy care for elective and emergency admissions. You will be welcomed by a dynamic, enthusiastic team where development is a priority. This area is both rewarding and challenging caring for some of the most complex patients in the trust, where empathy and understanding is required to support patients with life changing diagnosis. Main duties of the job

Post holder will carry out clinical practice within designated clinical areas. Be responsible for

Completing & undertaking relevant nursing & clinical procedures.

Act as advocate for patients within the areas, to ensure a patient focused approach to the delivery of care. Ensure patients receive high quality clinical care and a positive patient experience, having regard to their customs, beliefs and ethnicity.

Promote a clean and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, health care associated infection prevention, governance including risk management and incident reporting and act without delay in the reporting and escalating of any areas of concern. Recognise and act to avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of patients. Ensure accurate, legible and timely documentation relating to all aspects of patients care and treatment both paper based and electronically.

Initiate nursing assessments and care plans based on assessment and observation of the patient's physical and psychological well-being / illness.

Monitor patients progress, ensuring accurate records of all relevant observations and clinical assessments are kept and take appropriate action as indicated. Have accountability for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to the Trust

Policy. Achieve and maintain skills and clinical competencies specific to the post/ department role

including equipment training.
