Job summary

We are recruiting for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy, friendly team to work in our progressive laboratory. Full time Vacancy at Heartlands Hospital Birmingham in the Department of Cellular Pathology. The core working hours for the laboratories are 07:00 -- 17:30 Monday -- Friday. Full time successful candidates will be required to work for 7.5 hours per weekday within these core times, on Saturday and Sundays by rotation, and to work across sites as required. The Department participates in a full range of routine Cellular Pathology techniques; full training and induction will be provided for the role.

Cellular Pathology is a diagnostic laboratory operating within Laboratory Medicine. The department houses several sub-specialities including histopathology, cytopathology, electron microscopy, a muscle biopsy service, molecular pathology services, a specialist musculoskeletal pathology service, Andrology service, as well as a post mortem suite, mortuary and body repository. The laboratory receives and processes a wide range of tissue samples including approximately eighty thousand histological specimens and 7000 non-gynae cytology fluid based samples per year.

Cellular Pathology is accredited by UKAS, holds a HTA licence and is an IBMS approved training laboratory for HCPC Registration and Specialist Training and participates fully in UK NEQAS External Quality Assurance schemes where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Posts will assist and support the broad range of tasks applicable to a routine Histopathology laboratory to facilitate delivery of the Cellular Pathology diagnostic services, please see attached job description. The successful candidates will be educated to a good GCSE level in English Language and Mathematics with good interpersonal communication and keyboard skills. The posts will suit individuals whom are methodical with an eye for detail and with strong team work ethics.
