Band 6 Peritoneal Dialysis Clinical Nurse Specialist
This job is now closed
Job summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our friendly, supportive team in the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit at QEHB.
The CAPD unit is an outpatient unit based in the Heritage building of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Our opening times are from 8am -- 6pm Monday to Friday.
We are proud to be one of the largest, constantly growing Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) home therapy units in England. We have approximately 200 patients on PD and we offer CAPD, APD and Assisted APD.
We provide holistic care to a variety of patients with complex kidney conditions who require Peritoneal dialysis and we provide our patients with training and support along the way.
Within the PD Unit we also have the Renal Infusion Suite where we administer chemotherapy and biological therapies to patients with complex renal conditions.
So, there are plenty of training and development opportunities available in this specialised area.
Join the team and make a real difference by helping to empower patients to perform Peritoneal dialysis at home allowing them to maintain their independence, continue working and have a good quality of life.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced registered nurse with excellent communication skills who is committed to the care and treatment of renal patients undertaking Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) as a home therapy.
The role of a PD nurse is very autonomous and involves running nurse led outpatient clinics and making clinical decisions about patient care.
We also provide monitoring for PD inpatients, reviewing PD prescriptions and providing specialised knowledge/advice on the wards.
The team is very focused on patient education with a strong emphasis on the prevention of infection. We provide patients with the knowledge, support and training they need to be able to perform their own PD safely at home.
We also visit patients in the community to provide them with ongoing training and support.
It is preferable that the post holder has experience in the care of patients with chronic kidney disease and has a strong understanding of peritoneal dialysis.
If you would like to work within a positive and supportive team, then please don't hesitate to contact us for more information or to arrange an informal visit.
We would be very happy to hear from you.
