Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our excellent, dynamic out-patient Physiotherapy team

2 Full time posts with rota based extended & weekend working have become available. The role involves assessing & treating MSK outpatients referred by T+O, GP's & self-referrals giving the post holder exposure to a wide & varied caseload.

Birmingham Heartlands Physiotherapy department is based at the state-of-the-art Heartlands Treatment Centre, with Solihull team based in a long established & successful department. Both utilise large therapy gyms, including isokinetic dynamometers, whilst the Trust has its own dedicated hydrotherapy service at Good Hope Hospital.

There are numerous learning opportunities, led by highly experienced staff with structured in-service training, clinical supervision & gym class variety.

Post graduate experience across core rotations is required -- 1 rotation with appropriate experience in an MSK setting is essential.

Band 5 applicants with appropriate experience may be considered for a developmental role becoming a band 6 upon completion of role-based competencies.

Main duties of the job

* To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to MSK out-patients within University Hospitals -- with sites specified as Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope Hospitals. Incorporating extended hours over 6/7 day working patterns

* To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

* To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

* To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

* To assist with supervision, education and co-ordination of generic therapy assistants, and junior therapy staff.

* Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
