Job summary
Our Pathology department supports every corner of University Hospitals Birmingham to include service users who study diseases within our Labs -- in turn it dictates clinical decisions and patient pathways within the Trust.
As demand increases, we have ensured the delivery of this service and are now looking to grow our team of Medical Lab Assistants- who will provide invaluable support to our Biomedical Scientists.
Working within standard operating procedures, you will be tasked with processing patient specimens for biomedical testing. This includes labelling and preparing specimens and problem solving in the event of misplaced samples. You will perform a range of laboratory tests, which require accuracy and good hand to eye co-ordination.
Additionally, you will provide an internal service to clinicians and other healthcare workers by reporting on test results accurately and often in a time sensitive situations.

You can expect a salary up to 24,336. This, along with a public sector pension, 27 days annual leave and the opportunity to make a difference within the communities we live and work in.
Candidates will be required to a have a flexible approach as the department operates a 24/7 rota to include; lates, nights, weekends, Bank Holidays.
Main duties of the job
Specimen Reception is a fast-paced, high output environment covering all four sites; Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, and Good Hope over a 24 hour period and core hours at Solihull.
Successful candidates will perform laboratory administration duties such as recording specimen details, traceability, recording and updating information on laboratory system. Technical duties such as performing housekeeping duties, monitoring and recording of equipment, disposal of clinical specimens and waste as per laboratory protocol, filing and scanning of paper and electronic records in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures. A good understanding of overall specimen reception service and excellent data entry skills would be paramount to this role.
