Job summary

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Audiology Centre (QEHAC) is excited to announce a rare and exciting opportunity to join the team on The Midlands Hearing Implant Programme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic qualified Audiologist with experience in working with adults with hearing loss and an interest in working with severe to profoundly deaf patients who are being assessed for, or who have, a cochlear implant (CI). This role is to cover maternity leave and is fixed term for one year.

Within this role you will be developed to become an integral member of the multi-disciplinary clinical team working alongside our CI clinicians, helping to provide face-to-face and remote clinical support to patients with hearing aids and CIs.

Specialist CI in-house and off-site training will be given, and all work will be carried out under the guidance of a CI Audiologist.

This is part-time position for 30 hours per week. Flexible working patterns may be available.

If you are keen to take on this new challenge, we would be delighted to hear from you.

30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide scientific audiological input to the Midlands Hearing Implant Programme (Adult service), including pre- and post-operative assessments, programming of cochlear implants, upgrading of sound processors, contributing to clinical decision-making regarding suitability for implantation and rehabilitation and documentation of individual patients' progress.

They will participate in the assessment of new patients who have been referred for consideration of a cochlear implant (CI). This includes pure tone audiometry, speech discrimination testing and other diagnostic tests. They will review hearing aid provision and perform hearing aid re-fittings as appropriate.

They will also provide care to existing CI patients including basic processor programming, testing of benefit, evaluation of sound processor and device status and to perform problem solving for patients requiring repairs. They will participate in processor upgrades both face to face and via Direct-to-Patient services.

We are a research-driven, evidence-based service, implementing models of good practice outlined in the BCIG 2023 Quality Standards for Cochlear implantation.

In-house and off-site training will be given and all work will be carried out under the guidance of a CI Audiologist.

Excellent communication skills are needed when working with people with hearing loss, along with good manual and IT skills for dealing with hearing aids and cochlear implants.
