Job summary

There is an opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.

This is 12 month locum post with a view to the permanent post being advertised once the locum post is completed. It is expected that the appointee can complement the skills and the sub-specialities in the department. The appointee will be expected to support the Maxillofacial unit by running and coordinating the dentoalveolar and Oral Surgery needs for the department. The work will be carried out between Queen Elizabeth and Solihull hospitals. During the fixed term appointment there will be the opportunity to have access to our specialist team with skills in Oral Surgery, TMJ clinics and 2 week wait clinics.

The Unit is a regional centre for Head and Neck Cancer, Cleft, Craniofacial and Skull Base Surgery. There are close working relationships with ENT and Plastics.

The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Department works across three sites: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SH). The Trust is a regional centre for cancer, trauma, burns & plastics and has the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. This post is predominantly based at Solihull Hospital (SH) with some clinics Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Main duties of the job

The Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery Department has 13 consultants and 5 staff grades. It also employs 2 Consultant Orthodontists. The appointee will be expected to undertake cross-site working. Elective theatre sessions will be mainly at Solihull Hospital. Outpatient clinics are held at Solihull Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital QEH.

The job plan will include a commitment to clinic and theatre. Time will be given for admin and supporting professional activities.

Clinical responsibilities:

The appointee will be involved in running clinics and theatres.

It is expected that the successful candidate will support the department with the backlog for recovery of services.
