Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Scientist with a proven track record to take up the post of Head of QC and Dosimetry in the friendly and dynamic Radiotherapy Physics team at UHB.
We have around 50 scientific and technical staff working in conjunction with clinical colleagues to provide approximately 4,500 new patients per year with World Class radiotherapy treatments, utilising 6 Elekta Versas with FFF, a Tomotherapy HD, a Radixact unit with kVCT imaging, and a Cyberknife unit. We also have two wide-bore CT scanners, a dedicated HDR suite and an XStrahl orthovoltage system. Our new equipment programme means an on-site MRI scanner and a second Radixact will be installed soon.
We deliver the majority of plans using IMRT FFF, treat all NHS SABR categories, and are developing pancreatic and cardiac SABR solutions. Current research and development interests include TBI on the Tomotherapy platform, small field dosimetry, geometric uncertainties, flash RT, and spatial fractionation.
Main duties of the job
If appointed, you will have considerable autonomy to practice within your area of expertise, and with clinical colleagues and the other Consultant Clinical Scientists within Radiotherapy Physics will contribute towards setting the strategic direction of the service.
You should be experienced in people management, and ready to lead a large and diverse team of radiotherapy professionals, including the Head of Technical Services. You should also have a strong track record in project delivery and research activity, including published work.

- *Higher degree in Radiation Physics or Medical Radiation Physics.
- *PhD by research in appropriate subject, or equivalent advanced theoretical and practical knowledge gained through extensive study beyond Masters level, plus significant practical experience.
- *Corporate Membership or Fellowship of IPEM.
- *Registration as a Clinical Scientist with the HCPC.
- *Registered as MPE with RPA 2000, or in exceptional circumstances instead possesses considerable experience allowing imminent registration post-appointment.
- *Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable
- *Registration on the Higher Specialised Scientist Register, or offering equivalent experience in lieu of registration.

- *Wide experience of equipment appraisal and evaluation, QC, fault-finding, and similar activities related to the management of the specialised QA and Dosimetry section.
- *High level understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure or human error and of the critical requirement for accuracy in the radiotherapy process.
