Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting to 2 x 10PA NHS Locum Consultant Medical Oncologist, to join their dynamic team. The successful post holder will join an innovative team of Consultant Oncologists, to deliver an Oncology service in one of the largest Trusts in the UK. The successful appointee will cover Breast oncology and Colorectal oncology tumour sites, offering specialist expertise and care to patients from across the West Midlands region. The successful candidate can expect to work within an innovative and supportive team, compromising of Consultant Oncologists, SpRs, Physician Associates, Speciality Doctors, Junior Doctors, CNS, Nurses, Advanced Clinical Practioners and Pharmacists, whilst being supported by dedicated administrative teams.

Main duties of the job

UHB's Oncology service delivers an extensive range of systemic anti-cancer treatments and radiotherapy treatments. Consultant-led clinics are delivered face to face and virtually, from dedicated Oncology/Haematology units at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB), Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH), Good Hope Hospital (GHH) and Solihull Hospital (SHH). Bespoke Day Unit facilities support the delivery of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments from each hospital site. Inpatient Oncology care is delivered at all of UHB's sites, supported by the Acute Oncology Team (AOS) and Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) service. QEHB has two dedicated Oncology wards for elective inpatient treatment and emergency admissions. There is also an inpatient and day case Young Persons Unit (YPU).

The successful appointee will deliver breast-oncology and colorectal-oncology care, deliver outpatient clinics, consent to anti-cancer treatment, lead on tumour specific MDTs and deliver specialist inpatient care. The post holder will also contribute to a 1 in 14 on-call rota at QEH.

Job plans will be agreed upon recruitment but will include the above key responsibilities to a 10PA schedule.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate good interpersonal skills, have significant experience in delivery anti-cancer treatment and managing side effects, cope under pressure and be hardworking.
