Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, and experienced Midwife to join our growing senior midwifery team, to guide and support the delivery of outstanding care within our maternity services. This post will be based on the Birmingham Heartlands site and as Matron have responsibility for the antenatal, post-natal wards, emergency & elective assessment areas.
Reporting to the Head of Midwifery, the post holder will be a key member of the team in providing operational leadership. The role requires you to work autonomously and provide compassionate leadership, with a commitment to a flexible, visible, and responsive approach to your work. Appreciating the work across the organisation and system you will support the delivery of high-quality maternity care, considerate to the needs of the diverse populations we serve.
This is an exciting time to be joining our team, with progressive work underway including the implementation of a student led learning environment and extensive estates improvement work to create dedicated emergency & elective assessment areas.
Main duties of the job
-To provide day to day operational & professional leadership and management in the clinical areas, to ensure all teams work collaboratively to deliver integrated care.
-To enable a culture of learning and effectiveness.
-To advocate for excellent patient care ensuring this is fundamental to all clinical decision making.
-To assist in the development of guidelines, policies / procedures in performance, risk management, recruitment & retention.
-Be accountable for budget and financial targets within the area of responsibility and support / lead on the delivery of quality and efficiency initiatives.
-Promote high standards of infection control compliance and Health & Safety.
-Provide assurance that investigations into patient care / complaints lead to systematic changes when required and that any changes in practice are actively monitored and sustained.
-Ensure own practice and that of others upholds the NMC / HCPC codes of practice.

- Recognised management qualification i.e. ISM Diploma
- Educated to Degree level
- Master's Degree or working towards qualification

- Significant experience of managing maternity and Women's Health Services
