Job summary

Do you want to be the clinical specialist Dietitian for one of the largest intestinal failure units in the UK? Do you want a post where there is the time to carry our audit, research and service development?

UHB has been successful in becoming a regional integrated severe intestinal failure Centre and hence additional funding has resulted in an expansion of the intestinal failure dietetic team. This new clinical specialist Dietitian will lead and be responsible for developing the dietetic intestinal failure team. The successful person in this post will need to have substantial clinical experience in the specialist area of intestinal failure, because UHB is a regional tertiary referral Centre for abdominal wall reconstructive surgery, hepatobiliary, cancer, trauma, renal, burns and plastics, bone marrow transplants and cardio-thoracic surgery which means we have patients who have type 1, 2 and 3 intestinal failure needs.

This post is ideal for a dietitian who already has substantial clinical, leadership and service development skills, but want to use these skills to develop a service further and the post will allow substantial CPD time to be involved with audit, research and presenting at conferences. You will be responsible for a band 7 and band 6 dietitian and be part of a large supportive intestinal failure team who value the dietetic role comprising of medics, nutrition nurses, pharmacy, and psychology.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a large dietetic team of over 65 dietitians and assistants covering a range of specialties and this post will be a mixture of inpatient and outpatient work. You will be involved in the daily parenteral nutrition rounds, inpatient and outpatient work. Part of this role is to set up a dietetic service to our home parenteral patients supporting them and their families.

You will work within a multi professional framework and to work towards individual and team objectives set by evidence based clinical practice, management, education, research and audit. You will support service quality improvement initiatives ensuring patient outcomes are optimized. You will contribute to dietetic, therapy and Trust wide policies, strategies, guidelines, standards, and protocols.

You will need to have excellent communication and leadership skills, be adaptable and confident to work autonomously and with other members of staff within a supportive team. We expect you to be enthusiastic, motivated, able to evidence continuing professional development and keen to develop yourself and others.
